Ten years ago, Barbara Backus opened a tiny licensed cheese plant next to the house and named it Goat’s Leap. By the 1970s, Bice was engaged to Steven Schack, an Angeleno who majored in psychology at Sonoma State University. “While he was studying, he got a few goats,” recalls Bice. Once married, Bice and Schack took over her parents’ farm in Sebastopol, formed Redwood Hill goat dairy and produced goat milk for the health food market. By the 1980s, they graduated to yogurt, and in the 1990s, to cheese. I was striving to create a clean and smart design by combining the shape of а cup and а wild goat in compact form that goes well with the company’s business and make a logo and business name sing together.

The logo is hand drawn and in the style of works of art, old masters of drawing like Albrecht Dürer. It represents the detailed head of Bock, with which I wanted to convey strength, quality and a clear message to the customers. Unlike the fresh and mold-ripened discs, rennet is added to the milk for this cheese.
The funny look, brings personality to the logo, which is a special feature on the market. We would like to develop a master brand logo for our gentleman’s farm located in New England. We selected the name Tree Flower Farms for our property because the property is planted with many dogwood and cherry trees that bloom throughout the spring and summer. We grow organic fruits and vegetables, raise goats, chickens, and honey bees. My concept is based on the right proportions of a goat, but using a pronounced angle to highlight the smile and the cigar, giving character to the goat.Also kept the coloring simple so the drawing can be appreciated.

These goat cheeses follow roughly the same range of styles of French cow milk cheeses, but the similarities end there.
